1. If you thinking abour promoting your band on social media websites, you are thinking the right way. While there are still many traditional effective methods of band promotion, social media has obviously grown to a great extent, and leveraging these very popular websites to your advantage can have major impact on show turnouts, discoverability, and band revenue overall. First thing is first though, it is a little silly to try to promote your band on social media sites without first having a central place to send your fans. A Musicspace is a good thing to have, however you should build a website for your band if you have not. Why is this so essential? Where will you send your fans from twitter, facebook, etc? Especially if you plan on getting booked for paid shows, most venues will want to see a band website. A decent online website builder with hosting/domain included is Here 2. Now that you have your website up and running signup for twitter! Your goals with twitter should be to contribute regular updates about your bands shows, successes, and anything interesting to keep people following you, and even retweet what you tweet. That means if someone is following you, and you post something interesting they think all of their following would like, they will retweet it! That gives you even more exposure. Also, learn about hashtags, and how to use basic messaging and functions. You want to follow as many people as possible, and most importantly get your fans to follow YOU. The larger your network is, the more it will grow exponentially. 3. Make sure you do have a myspace, or musicspace, if the case of musicians. While myspace is dropping in the ranks a bit, it is still one of the largest social networks out there, and until it becomes obsolete, it should not be ignored as a networking tool. 4. Do not forget about YouTube. In YouTube, you want to have a YouTube Channel to feature any of your videos. It is not recommended to be overly stingy on your videos or media, thinking you should charge for everything, so why give it away? This is a HUGE mistake. Especially with YouTube, this is a great place to promote the excitement of live shows by sharing clips or your band or even music videos of recording sessions, songs, or other clips you think your fan base would enjoy.
